Clinton does it for Chavez

17 01 2008

Your beloved Mayor has announced his support (read: endorsement) of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s quest to recapture the thrown from the House of Windsor Bush. No word if Clinton will return the favor and support red light cameras.

Iran is stealing our submarine

30 11 2007

Enriched uranium? Pssh. I want to know what my country is doing about Iran making off with the USS Albuquerque.

Message to Bill Richardson, Iowa isn’t all that sweet in the winter. Focus. It’s time to put those diplomatic skills to use, buddy.

Sneaky, Iran. Very sneaky.

Darren White kicks out the jams

Hot damn! Campaign commercials are so 2006. Music videos… well, those are just timeless.

Sheriff White, thank you. Seriously.

Recall the President…

15 11 2007

…of GPSA! Yeah, sorry for the let down. Maybe not the President you were looking for.

Apparently there is movement afoot to recall the Graduate and Professional Student Association’s President, Joseph Garcia. I’m not sure what the deal is… travel grants, budgets, favors for friends, political agendas — oh, my!

I’ll let an article in Wednesday’s Daily Lobo set the scene for ya:

The [recall] petition states Garcia should be recalled because he did not manage the GPSA grant process and oversee the timely dispersal of the Student Research Allocations Committee funds or Special Travel Committee funds.

. . . .

[Max] Fitzpatrick [chairman of the Student Research Allocations Committee] said there were 86 applications and 12 readers. The readers did the best they could, but graduate students have busy lives, he said.

…blah, blah, blah. Future leaders of tomorrow, yippee! My advice (because I know you’re wondering): Play nice. Forgive. Compromise. Fix. Get your noses back in the books.

Look, baby, I’m a problem solver.

The aforementioned Max Fitzpatrick wrote a response to the article that appeared in Thursday’s Lobo. Totally awesome. Can’t say these people lack passion.

Calling ‘Young Professional’ Debate Watchers

15 11 2007

Tonight at the Carom Club, Bill Richardson for President is hosting the ‘Richardson for President Young Professional Debate Watch Party’ at 5:30pm. Technically, you’re suppose to have a $25 ticket to get in the door, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they accept any contribution amount.

The Democratic presidential candidates are doing their best put on a ‘prize fight’ in lovely Las Vegas, Nevada. If you’ve followed any of the previous Democratic debates (or Republican, for that matter), you already know a stiff drink is the best way to wash down the candidates’ B.S. Bridges to the Future, Promise to America, Fuzzy Math, etc. Whether you’re a Richardson fan or not, this event is a great elbow rubbing opportunity. Attendees include State Auditor Hector Balderas and Democratic Party of New Mexico, Chair, Brian Colón.

Richardson for President Young Professional Debate Watching Party
November 15, 2007 — 5:30pm
Carom Club
301 Central Ave. NW
Tickets — $25 per person

See you there, or at the bottom of a glass.

P.S. — Today is Richardson’s birthday. Woohoo! Party on.

Invisible series of tubes coming to Los Ranchos

12 05 2007

Look out guys, the Village of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque is gettin’ all 21st century on us! RedOrbit reports Los Ranchos is teaming up with Roadrunner Communications to offer residents village-wide Wi-Fi for $50 a month:

Wi-Fi should be available soon within a mile of Village Hall first, then it will move out from there, [Mayor Larry] Abraham told village trustees Wednesday night.

. . . .

Abraham said the service can be used to provide security cameras for village locations or for individual residents. The cameras would beam images using Wi-Fi technology to a Web site where the cameras can be monitored by residents.

Fancy. It’d be great if it was free, but you can’t always have your cake and eat it, too — I guess. It’ll be interesting to see how many residents opt for the village’s Wi-Fi. Although Los Ranchos is its own municipality, it’s probably just about the perfect size test this sort of thing out for the greater metro area. Well, if I ignore what’s going on up on that mesa.
